While race season is on pause, riding is not!

Keep active and safe as we await details on the season.

TRAINING

by Coach Kim    March 30, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic there has been a lot of uncertainty of when or if the season will continue this spring. Beginning Mid-March, NICA National postponed all actvities including practices, races and other gatherings.

Last week NICA NY announced its plans for a shortened season, all depending on when we are allowed to meet as a team. If we can resume activities by the beginning of May, we will continue with a  shortened spring season with the last 3 races. If we are not able to resume activities until mid-May we will move the season to the Fall of 2020 and continue with a spring season for 2021.

While we wait to see when the season activities resume, whether it be this spring or a move to a fall season, there is no reason we can't keep riding. Not only does it help relieve stress but it helps break up the day and gets you some fresh air!  Here are some tips to keep motivated and moving while also practicing physical distancing:

  • While you are homeschooling, make riding your gym session.
  • Ride by yourself or with your families. If you are unable to make it to the trails, ride around your neighborhoods. Keep a phone on you and tell someone where you are riding in case something happens.
  • Explore a new park or area you have never been to. Share photos and information with the team!
  • Go for a run or walk. Keep yourself motivated by going a little bit further or faster each day.
  • If riding on the street is not an option, set your bike up on a trainer outside and enjoy some fresh air.
  • Find some workout videos online and try a new one each day. Find full body workouts or try multiple ones that target different muscle groups.
  • Now is a good time to work on bike skills, such as track stands, bunny hops and turns.
  • Use the Team app and apps such as Zoom to keep in contact with your teammates. Try and contact at least 1 person on the team and see how they are doing.
  • Share photos of your activities...While we can't ride together we would love to see what you are all up to!

Happy Riding.....we hope to see you all in person soon!
