RACING

We traveled to Tilden Hill Farms in Vernon, NY for the third race this season. Tilden Hill is a beautiful Farm and camping venue complete with miles of single track mountain bike trails and skills areas.

The Pre-ride was moved up to 1pm on Saturday to beat the impending storm.   The  course was a good mix of tight turning single track with roots mixed in and some wider double track paths perfect for passing. A couple punchy climbs, but overall the course had little elevation change.  Saturday the trails were mostly dry, with some perpetual wet spots with permanent skinny bridges over them. Overall the course was fast, flowy and fun!

Around 5pm on Saturday, the rain started as we packed up the tents and team area for the evening, and continued throughout the night.

As Race day began, there was still a little mist in the air and light rain.  The first ride of the course feedback came that the trais were tretcherous, with slick mud that caked to your tires and frame.  Luckily as the day went on the course dried up and become fast!

The middle school girls were the first to race  and had the least ideal conditions of the day. The course was still wet and slick and slightly raining out.  Mackenzie and Anne rode smart and finished 5th and 2nd respectively.

Erin Rode strong to easily win the Varsity Girls race, and Amber Rode smart to finish 4th in the Varsity Girls Race.  Kat raced smart to win the JV Girls race and Emma joined her on the podium in 5th place for the third race in a row!  Lilly and Trinity rounded out the the R-Cubed JV crew finishing in 7th and 12th. Avery Won the Sophomore Girls race for the second race in a row, an Kiera finished 4th in the Freshman Girls race.

The course dried up significantly for the Middle school Boys races and  R-Cubed's 5 8th grade boys started off the afternoon races.  Aiden completed the race in 2nd place, followed by Tanner in 7th,  racing the the 8th Grade Boys race. Colby Finished his first ever bike race in 11th place followed by Jonathan in 12th and Cameron in 13th. Peter rode a strong race and finished 1th in the extremely competitive 7th grade boys race.

The last race of the day was the high school boys race. The sun came out and it started getting pretty hot out. Jasper, John, Owen and Silas fought hard in the grueling 5 lap Varsity Boys race finishing  9th, 11th, 12th and 14th. The JV race started off with some elbow throwing, which threw Michael into and over the side fence, but he was able to get back on his bike and continue on. Charles led R-Cubed JV boys crew finishing on the podium in 4th, Michael finished in 11th, Alex finished in `8th and Eben in 21st.

In the Sophomore Boys Race, Ethan landed on the podium again in 4th place and Logan finished in 13th.   The Freshman Boys were the last start for the day with Riley and Brayden H and Brayden K racing. Riley finished in 7th, followed by Brayden H in 12th and Brayden K in 22nd for his first raece of the season!

R-Cubed had 30 athletes racing, and finished the day in second place overall, and continued to hold our second place overall team for the series.

Our Team Points Scorers for the day were:

1 Erin Smith 575 Varsity Girls
2 Amber Travis 547 Varsity Girls
3 Kathryn Smith 540 JV Girls
4 Charles Lobosco III 512 JV Boys

Another fantastic day of racing!
