R-Cubed races their way up to second place!

Race Number 3 took us to Oneonta High school again for the Miracle on the Mountain Race. This is the second year in a row racing at Oneonta high school and the course as pretty much the same as last year. A long leg zapping grassy field start followed by a long uphill climb, which eventually lead to a fun technical downhill. The course then finished off by a couple more woods sections divided by some flat open road sections. The course was fast and mostly dry despite the overnight rain. The weather predictions for the day had a 50% chance for thunderstorms, but the race went on with a plan in place if severe weather struck. The day was humid with some sun and ominous clouds rolling through from time to time.

The middle school races went off smoothly with several racers completing their first races this year! The sun came out for the high school boys’ race and it got hot for a large portion of the race, ending with a refreshing quick rain shower to finish it off.

More dark clouds starting rolling in as the girls race start approached and thunder started. The race was put on pause for 15 minutes as we awaited the storm to pass, and the girls’ race began. After about 30 minutes in, the threat of severe thunderstorms approaching caused the race officials to cut the race short so that everyone could finish safely. Unfortunately that meant that all of the girls were unable to complete their full races, some were only able to complete 1 lap.

After the storm threat receded, we packed up the tents and the Awards ceremony followed.

R-Cubed finished Second place for the day in team points, bringing us to 2nd place overall in the series standings!!!! Great Job to all racers!

In other great news, the Girls will race first in our next race at Gurney Lane. Come out and cheer R-Cubed on in our local race!
