Saturday was a beautiful day for the course Pre-ride, sunny and warm and the course was in great shape with a couple puddles around. Then midnight hit and the sky opened up. The rain continued throughout the morning, saturating the trails a good amount. The course is on red clay and does not drain very quickly., causing very wet conditions and many puddles. Conditions led to several course changes, removing sections that proved to be too dangerous in wet conditions and also added in a mandatory dismount over a bridge.
The rain continued all morning for the middle school girls races and the beginning of the high school girls race. This kept the puddles and mud mostly on the ground. By the time the middle school boys race bagan, the rain stopped and the ground began to dry. The mud started sticking to everything, seizing chanis, wheels and all different bike parts. The mud was impossible to get off and the race became a test of grit.
The mud did cause some bike casualties for some riders, but overall the team persevered and came out on top again!
Sunday's win increased R-Cubed's lead in team points by 88 points.
